Is Deer Velvet an aphrodisiac?

It seems that the blogosphere is fill of reports that deer velvet is a natural aphrodisiac. Unfortunately there is no evidence to support this. In fact some more credible reports state that it is not.

What is more likely to be the case, and where some claims of improved sexual function originate from, is deer velvets ability to help with overall health of a person. In its traditional use in chinese medicine, it was used as an aid in the following areas:
Body strengthening, Blood cell production, Immune system support, and Cardiovascular health and function.

By being able to help a person in these areas, and improve their overall health, it would then follow that their sexual function would also improve. But this does not make deer velvet into an aphrodisiac as such.
